Exciting Vice Principal Announcement

I am pleased to announce that Charity Peal, currently a teacher at Nisga’a Elementary Secondary School, has been appointed Vice Principal of Nisga’a Elementary Secondary School, effective August 1, 2021.  Charity is of Nisg̱a’a and Kwakiutl descent. She is Lax̱ Sgiik from the house of Gwiix Maaw̓. She has lived in the community of Gitlax̱t’aamiks her entire life. Charity is a graduate of NESS  and began working there as a teacher in 2001, teaching grades 6 – 12. 


Charity graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in First Nations Studies with a minor in History. She completed the Professional Development Program (Teacher Certification) through Simon Fraser University and completed a Masters of Education in Multidisciplinary Leadership at the University of Northern British Columbia.


In her role at NESS, Charity has encouraged student leadership, teacher professional learning communities and enhanced the graduation program. Charity also worked as Coordinator of Language and Culture Programs in the district.
