Carey Stewart accepts Superintendent Position with Haida Gwaii

By Joe Rhodes | 10 May 2019

It is with mixed emotion that I announce the departure of Assistant Superintendent Carey Stewart as he moves forward in his career path. Haida Gwaii’s gain is our loss but we wish he and Kim much success in this new chapter. The opportunity to be closer to family and the challenge to lead an organization were strong motivators for them to make this difficult decision.

We will miss Carey’s never-ending optimism, his ability to always see the good in students, parents and staff, his unwavering belief that we can, and do make a difference in the lives of Nisga’a children and families, and the smile that permanently shines.

 Board Chair Elsie Davis comments:

“Carey has played a large role in helping us grow our district in the direction we are striving to, he has proven to be not only a role model but also a mentor and at times a friend to our children and youth. While School District No. 92 (Nisga’a) is sad to see Mr. Stewart leave we are excited and happy for both him and his wife Kim to have the opportunity to have more direct quality family time. The Board of School District No. 92 (Nisga’a) wishes Carey Stewart all the best in this new turn in his personal and professional journey and we look forward to the connection and collaboration in the future.”

Carey and Kim have given their hearts and minds to the children of the Nisga’a Nation and will be greatly missed. Their footprints will be forever etched in the Nass, and their guidance will continue in the hearts of the children. We wish them great happiness as they close this chapter in their lives, and turn the page to a new one.

A celebration will be held at a later date to be announced, to honour their service.

 Joe Rhodes,
Superintendent
